Adrian,For the floodlit football, your fastest aperture 105mm tele will probably be best to keep shutter speeds high enough to freeze motion. Custom White Balance is critical in floodlighted situations. Consider using a lower ISO,and shorter lens, while keeping shutter speed at 1/500 second if at all possible, and then cropping-in at the computer. I fear the 28-300's top aperture of only f/5.6 at 270-300mm will render it useless under anyhting but PRO-stadium type lighting, hence reccomending the 105 2.8 Sigma, ISO 800, f/3.2 or 2.8 aperture from longer rnge, then crop-in at the computer. Again, White Balance is _crucial_ under floodlighting. Best of luck. The low-cost 135 2.8 AiS is a good 2nd hand lens for $75-$100 walk-in as a fine sports tele that's very compact, and handy on 1.5x from the sidelines/closer stadium rows.
